Star Trek: Strategic Operations Simulator is an action shooter developed by Sega in 1982 and ported to DOS. Taking command of the USS Enterprise, you must defend starbases from Klingon attacks across multiple sectors. The interface divides your screen into three distinct displays: a top-down tactical radar, a first-person viewer for aiming, and a status panel monitoring your ship's energy and damage levels.
How to play
Your goal is to clear each sector of Klingon battlecruisers and anti-matter mines while protecting your starbases. You can maneuver the Enterprise using the arrow keys. Attack enemies with your phasers or launch limited photon torpedoes for heavier damage. Docking at a surviving starbase will replenish your shields and weapon supplies. You can also engage your warp drive to quickly close the distance to enemies or escape danger, though it consumes significant energy.
Tips
- Phasers consume your shield capacity with each shot, so rely on precise targeting rather than continuous fire when your shields are low.
- Save your photon torpedoes for clustered enemies or emergencies, as they deal instant damage without draining your ship's power.
- Protecting starbases should be your top priority; if they are all destroyed, you lose the ability to repair and refuel in that sector.
