Based on the classic Mad Magazine comic strip, Spy vs Spy is a competitive multiplayer puzzle-action game released for the NES in 1988 by Kemco. Playing as either the White Spy or the Black Spy, you navigate a maze of rooms to gather a passport, money, secret plans, and a key, all while trying to outwit and eliminate your rival using an assortment of deadly booby traps.
How to Play
The objective is to collect all four hidden items and place them into a briefcase, then find the room with the airplane door to escape before the timer runs out. You can only carry one item at a time unless you have the briefcase. The NES controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the Arrow Keys to move and navigate rooms, Z (A Button) to search furniture or attack in combat, and X (B Button) to open your trap inventory. Press Enter (Start) to pause.
Tips
- Pay close attention to your opponent’s screen when they are setting traps; this gives away which doors or furniture they have rigged.
- If you find an item but don’t have the briefcase yet, you can hide it in a different piece of furniture to throw your rival off the trail.
- When engaging in hand-to-hand combat, rapid strikes are essential. Defeating the other spy forces them to drop their items and respawn with a time penalty.
