Spot – The Video Game is a 1990 puzzle strategy game developed by Virgin Mastertronic for the NES. Based on the 7 Up mascot Spot, it is a video game adaptation of the board game Infection (also known as Ataxx). The goal is to fill the 7×7 board with as many of your pieces as possible by cloning them and converting your opponent’s tokens.
How to play
The objective is to finish the game with more pieces on the board than your opponent. Use the D-pad to select a piece and choose a destination square, then press A to move. Moving to an adjacent square clones your piece, while moving two squares away makes it jump, leaving the original square empty. Any opponent pieces directly next to the square you land on will flip to your color. (Browser controls: Arrow keys to move, Z for A, X for B, Enter for Start, Shift for Select).
Tips
- Focus on making adjacent clone moves rather than jumps whenever possible, as having more pieces on the board limits your opponent’s options.
- Try to secure the corner and edge spaces; pieces in the corners are harder for your opponent to surround and flip.
