Spear of Destiny is a 1992 first-person shooter developed by id Software for DOS, serving as a prequel to Wolfenstein 3D. You step into the boots of Allied spy B.J. Blazkowicz on a critical mission to infiltrate Nazi-occupied Castle Nuremberg and recover the stolen Spear of Destiny before it can be used for world domination.
How to play
The objective is to navigate the maze-like floors of the castle, eliminate guards and SS officers, and find keys to unlock new areas before confronting the level’s boss. Use the Arrow keys to move and turn, Ctrl to fire your weapon, Space to open doors and activate switches, and hold Alt to strafe.
Tips
- Check the walls: Many walls conceal secret push-blocks. Walk along the walls pressing Space to uncover hidden rooms filled with health kits, ammo, and treasure.
- Manage your arsenal: Ammunition is shared across your weapons. Stick to the pistol for single guards to conserve bullets, and save the rapid-fire chaingun for emergencies and bosses.
- Use doorways as chokepoints: Instead of charging into a crowded room, open the door and let the enemies come to you. This limits how many can shoot at you at once.
