Developed by Human Entertainment and released in North America in 1994, SOS is a unique survival adventure for the SNES. You play as one of four passengers aboard the luxury cruise liner Lady Crithania, which has capsized after being struck by a massive wave. With the ship steadily taking on water and the environment rotating dynamically around you, your goal is to navigate the treacherous, inverted corridors, rescue other survivors, and find an escape route before time runs out.
How to Play
Your objective is to escape the sinking ship within a strict one-hour time limit. The environment will periodically shift and rotate, altering paths and creating deadly falls. You can also recruit other survivors to follow you to safety. Play uses standard SNES controls: the D-pad to move, B to jump, Y to run or grab edges, A to call out to survivors, and X to interact with objects. In your browser, these are typically mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys along with Z, X, A, and S, while Enter acts as Start.
Tips
- Each of the four playable characters begins in a different location on the ship and has their own unique optimal escape route.
- Falls are extremely dangerous; taking damage will subtract five minutes from your remaining time instead of using a traditional health bar.
- To get the best possible ending, you must rescue the specific survivors most closely associated with your chosen character’s storyline.
