🎮 Play Sonic the Hedgehog – SNES Edition Online (SNES)

Sonic the Hedgehog – SNES Edition is an unlicensed SNES release built on top of Speedy Gonzales: Los Gatos Bandidos, the 1995 Sunsoft-developed, Acclaim-published platformer. The bootleg swaps Speedy for Sega’s mascot, turns the cheese pickups into rings, and otherwise reuses the original engine’s running, jumping, and kicking. Because the underlying game was a finished commercial product rather than an original creation, the hack plays far more smoothly than most unlicensed Sonic ROMs of the era.

How to play

Run through each level, take down enemies, and free the captives locked in cages along the way. Move with the arrow keys, jump with Z or X (mapped from the SNES B button), and kick with A or S (mapped from the Y button). Holding the kick button while running builds up extra speed, which is essential for clearing the loops built into several stages.

Tips

• There is no spin dash here — it’s Speedy Gonzales’s kick attack underneath, so use it to clear enemies rather than trying to roll through them.
• Build your running speed on a straight, flat stretch before a loop; entering one too slowly just drops you back down.
• Cages hold the imprisoned Marios the bootleggers swapped in for the original game’s mice — break every one you pass for the rescue objective.
