Game description:

Solomon no Kagi (Japan) (Disk Writer) is a classic puzzle-platformer developed by Tecmo and released for the NES in 1986. Better known in the West as Solomon’s Key, this game challenges players to navigate rooms filled with enemies and traps by creating and destroying blocks. It is widely recognized for its high difficulty and intricate puzzle designs that require both quick reflexes and careful planning.

How to Play

Your objective is to guide the wizard Dana through each room to retrieve a magical key and reach the exit door before time runs out. You can cast spells to create or destroy orange stone blocks to build platforms, trap enemies, or block projectiles. Use the arrow keys to move, Z to cast a block-creation or destruction spell, X to jump, Enter for Start, and Shift for Select.

Tips

  • Blocks can only be created or destroyed directly in front of Dana or diagonally below him; use this to build staircases and shields.
  • If an enemy is standing on a block, destroying that block will cause the enemy to fall, which can be useful to eliminate them or move them out of your way.
  • Keep an eye on your “Life” meter, which functions as a strict time limit for each room. Don’t waste time once the path to the door is open.
