Game description:

Solomon is a 2000 puzzle game for the Game Boy Color, developed by Graphic Research and published by Tecmo. It reworks the block-building puzzle format of the Solomon’s Key series into a Monster Rancher-themed adventure: you play Cox, an adventurer climbing a tower of monster-filled floors, one puzzle at a time. The game released in Japan on September 29, 2000, and reached North America three weeks later as Monster Rancher Explorer.

How to play: each floor of the tower is a self-contained puzzle. Move Cox around the room and create or destroy blocks to build stairways over gaps, wall off enemies, and uncover hidden treasure, then reach the floor’s exit before time runs out. Certain floors hide a bonus round where you can capture a monster to join you as an ally for the rest of the climb.

  • Arrow keys — move Cox
  • Z — A button
  • X — B button
  • Enter — Start
  • Shift — Select

Tips:

  • Don’t just clear a path forward — creating a block can be as useful as destroying one, letting you build a makeshift bridge or staircase across a gap.
  • If a bonus round shows up, take it. Capturing a monster there gives you help for the floors still ahead.
