Game description:

Developed by Rare in 1990, Solar Jetman is a unique multi-directional shooter for the NES that emphasizes physics-based exploration. You pilot a small, fragile jet pod through cavernous alien planets, battling hostile defense systems and gravitational pulls to recover pieces of the legendary Golden Warpship.

How to Play

Your objective is to locate spaceship parts within each planet’s cave system and tow them back to your mothership using a tractor beam. Navigate your pod using the browser’s Arrow keys (D-pad). Use Z and X (NES A and B buttons) to fire weapons and activate your thrusters, and press Enter or Shift (Start/Select) to pause or access the sub-menu.

Tips

  • Towing heavy cargo significantly alters your pod’s physics. Apply extra upward thrust to counteract the added weight, and use momentum to swing the cargo around tight corners.
  • Conserve fuel by coasting when possible. Constantly firing your thrusters will drain your reserves quickly, leaving you stranded.
  • If your pod takes too much damage, you will eject in a vulnerable spacesuit. Quickly navigate back to your mothership to equip a new pod without losing a life.
