Game description:

Snake Rattle n Roll is an isometric action platformer developed by Rare and released for the NES in 1990. Players guide the snakes Rattle and Roll through colorful, surreal 3D environments, gobbling up creatures called “Nibbley Pibbleys” to grow their tails long enough to weigh down the level’s exit scale and open the door.

How to Play

Your goal in each level is to eat enough Nibbley Pibbleys to grow your snake and trigger the scale at the end of the stage. Once the exit door opens, make your way out to advance. The game uses standard NES controls, typically mapped to your keyboard in the browser: use the Arrow Keys to navigate the isometric terrain, the Z key to attack with your tongue, and the X key to jump.

Tips

  • Your tongue attack is not just for combat; use it to grab hard-to-reach Nibbley Pibbleys from a distance.
  • If an enemy hits you or you take damage, you will lose segments of your tail. If you have no tail left when hit, you will lose a life.
  • Pay close attention to shadows on the ground to help judge the height and position of floating platforms and falling hazards.
