Smurf: Rescue in Gargamel's Castle is a 1982 action-platformer published by Coleco for the Atari 2600, based on Peyo's Smurfs and the Hanna-Barbera cartoon. You play as a Smurf on a mission to rescue Smurfette from Gargamel's lair — navigating a mushroom forest and the castle itself before you reach her.
How to play
The screen scrolls right as you advance. Duck under low-hanging branches, leap over gaps, and time your steps across moving platforms. Inside Gargamel's castle, Azrael the cat patrols the corridors — the only way past is to stay out of his path. There is no attack; survival is pure footwork.
Browser controls (Atari joystick mapped to keyboard):
- Arrow keys — move left/right and jump
- Spacebar — fire / action
- F11 / F12 — Select / Reset
- Alt+P — Pause
Tips
- Duck early for branches — the window to press down is tight, and reacting once the branch appears is usually too late.
- On moving platforms, step on and keep moving; waiting for them to settle will carry you off the edge.
