Game description:

Developed by Activision for the Atari 2600 in 1980, Skiing is a top-down sports title that challenges players to navigate a mountain course as quickly as possible. As an early original release for the console, it brought the speed and reflex demands of downhill and slalom racing into the living room.

How to Play

The game features two primary modes: downhill, where the goal is simply to reach the bottom without hitting trees, and slalom, which requires passing through a series of designated gates. You control the skier with the arrow keys to steer left and right across the slope.

Tips

  • Speed is determined by your angle—pointing your skis straight down builds maximum momentum, while cutting sharply across the slope acts as a brake.
  • In slalom mode, try to anticipate the next gate early so you can maintain a smoother, faster racing line rather than making harsh, momentum-killing turns.
