Developed by Maxis Software and released for the SNES in 1993, SimCity 2000 is a genre-defining city-building strategy simulator. It expands on the original game with an isometric perspective, varying terrain elevations, and deeper infrastructure mechanics like underground water pipes and complex transit networks. As mayor, you balance residential, commercial, and industrial zoning while managing the city budget, public services, and inevitable natural disasters.
How to play
Your objective is to grow a successful, financially stable city by meeting the needs of your citizens (Sims) and expanding your population towards the ultimate goal of building futuristic arcologies. Use the SNES gamepad to navigate the menus, zone land, and lay infrastructure.

Tips
- Always build power plants near the edges of the map to minimize the pollution affecting your residential zones.
- Don’t build water infrastructure right away; wait until your city grows dense enough to demand it, as pipes and pumps are expensive to maintain early on.
- Keep a close eye on the demand indicator graphโonly zone for what the city actually needs to avoid wasting money on empty lots.
