Shougi Saikyou is a traditional Japanese Shogi board game released for the SNES in 1995. It offers a faithful 16-bit digital adaptation of the classic strategy game, allowing players to experience standard Shogi matches.
How to Play
The objective of Shogi is to checkmate your opponent's king on a 9×9 board. A defining feature of the game is the drop rule, which allows you to return captured pieces to the board as your own. You can play this title directly in your browser using the arrow keys to navigate the board, Z and X as the primary action buttons to select and place pieces, and Enter for Start.
Tips
- Most pieces can be promoted when they reach the enemy camp (the farthest three rows), upgrading their movement capabilities.
- Keep captured pieces in hand until the right moment; the threat of a drop is often as powerful as the drop itself.
