Game description:

Shadowrun is a classic cyberpunk action-RPG released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1993. Developed by Beam Software and based on the acclaimed tabletop role-playing game, it drops you into the grim, futuristic streets of 2050 Seattle as Jake Armitage, a man who wakes up in a morgue with amnesia and a datajack in his head. Blending sci-fi and fantasy elements, the game combines real-time combat, exploration, and a unique keyword-based dialogue system as you navigate corporate conspiracies, hire mercenaries, and delve into the Matrix to uncover the mystery behind your own assassination.

How to Play

Your objective is to survive the perilous streets of Seattle, speak to NPCs to gather keywords for unlocking new conversation topics, and upgrade your skills, magic, and cyberware. The game uses a distinctive cursor-driven interface to interact with the world. Use the D-pad (mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys) to move Jake or the interaction cursor. The A button (Z key) is your primary action for examining objects, picking up items, firing your weapon, and confirming choices. The B button (X key) cancels actions or holsters your gun, allowing you to move normally without engaging in combat. Press Start (Enter) to pause and access your inventory and stats.

Tips

  • Examine everything and talk to everyone you meet; learning new keywords is essential for progressing the story and unlocking new locations.
  • Always hire Shadowrunners (mercenaries) before tackling difficult areas or corporate facilities, as Jake will often be outgunned alone.
  • Invest in your computer skill once available, as jacking into the Matrix is an excellent way to earn nuyen (money) and gather crucial data safely.
