Seaquest is a 1983 Atari 2600 shooter designed by Steve Cartwright and published by Activision. You command a submarine through hostile underwater levels, collecting friendly scuba divers while destroying enemy submarines and evading sharks. A depleting oxygen meter forces you to surface before you run dry — and surfacing with a full load of rescued divers earns a score bonus and advances the wave.
How to play
Steer your sub with the arrow keys and fire torpedoes with Spacebar. Your sub shoots in the direction it faces, so position and timing both matter. Collect the scuba divers drifting across each level — you can carry up to six at a time — then surface before the oxygen bar empties. The more divers you rescue per dive, the bigger the bonus. Other controls: F12 to reset, F11 to select a game variation, Alt+P to pause.
Tips
- Try to fill your diver count before surfacing — a full rescue earns significantly more points than coming up early.
- Clear your horizontal lane of enemy subs before stopping to collect a diver; enemy subs will fire if you linger in front of them.
- The oxygen bar drains constantly, so glance at it every few seconds — losing track of it is the most common way to lose a life.
