Game description:

Samurai Shodown is a classic 2D weapon-based fighting game originally released in arcades by SNK and later ported to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Set in late 18th-century Japan, the game distinguishes itself from other fighters of the era by focusing on deliberate, high-damage weapon strikes rather than long combo strings. It also introduces the “POW” meter, which fills as you take damage and increases your attack power when full.

How to Play

The objective is to deplete your opponent’s health bar across two rounds using a combination of light, medium, and heavy slashes and kicks. By default in the browser, the SNES D-pad is mapped to the Arrow Keys for movement and blocking (hold back away from the opponent). The SNES face and shoulder buttons (A, B, X, Y, L, R) are typically mapped to Z, X, A, S, Q, and W on your keyboard. Press Enter to Start.

Tips

  • Heavy slashes leave you vulnerable if you miss. Play defensively and wait for your opponent to make a mistake before striking for massive damage.
  • When your POW meter is full and your character turns red, prioritize landing a heavy slash, as the damage multiplier can instantly turn the tide of a match.
  • If a weapon clash occurs (when both players strike simultaneously), rapidly mash the attack buttons to disarm your opponent.
  • As this is the European (PAL) release of the game, it may run slightly faster than originally intended when played in a standard 60Hz browser emulator. You will need quicker reflexes to execute special moves or react to jumps.
