Rox is a unique falling-block puzzle game developed by Altron and released for the Game Boy Color in 2001. Unlike traditional block-matching titles, it challenges players to clear the board using a distinct numbered-dice mechanic where both mathematical spacing and speed are tested.
How to play
The core objective in Rox involves “sandwiching” blank tiles between two numbered dice. To clear blocks from the screen, you must trap an exact number of tiles between two dice displaying the same numberโfor instance, placing exactly one tile between two ‘1’ dice, or two tiles between two ‘2’ dice. As the game progresses, you must also juggle color-matching requirements.
Controls: Use the D-pad (Arrow Keys) to move the falling blocks, and press the A or B buttons (Z or X) to rotate the pieces before they land. Press Start (Enter) to pause the game.
Tips
- Plan your sandwiches: Always check the upcoming piece preview so you can set up multiple numbered pairs in a single drop for higher scores.
- Organize by color: Since later stages require color matching alongside the numerical rules, avoid mixing different hues in the same column whenever possible.
