Developed by Namco in 1986, Rolling Thunder is a classic action-platformer for the NES where you step into the shoes of Albatross, a top agent in the WCPO espionage unit. Your mission is to infiltrate the secret society Geldra and rescue your captured partner, Leila Blitz. The game stands out for its methodical run-and-gun gameplay, requiring a mix of sharp reflexes and tactical cover rather than just mindless shooting as you navigate through enemy-filled corridors.
How to Play
The goal is to reach the end of each stage before the timer runs out while taking down Geldra’s Masker henchmen. You have a health meter, but taking physical damage or getting shot will deplete it quickly, and running out of time costs a life. You must manage a limited supply of ammunition, which can be restocked by entering specific marked doors.

Tips
- Use doors to your advantage. Pressing up to enter a door makes you temporarily invincible, which is perfect for dodging enemy fire or letting patrols pass by.
- Watch your ammo count closely. If you run out of bullets, you can only fire a single, slow projectile at a time, leaving you vulnerable. Always prioritize entering doors marked “Bullets” or “Arms”.
- Remember that you can jump between the upper and lower floors by pressing up or down along with the jump button. Use this mobility to flank enemies or escape sticky situations.
