Robot Tank is a first-person tank combat game released by Activision for the Atari 2600 in 1983. You occupy the cockpit of a robot tank and face waves of enemy machines crossing the battlefield. The game distinguishes itself with a component damage model: enemy fire can knock out your radar or damage your hull, and you continue fighting in whatever state remains. Weather â fog and rain â periodically reduces visibility, turning encounters into tense close-range exchanges.
How to play
Steer and rotate with the arrow keys; press Spacebar to fire. Del activates turbo. Before starting, use F11 (SELECT) to pick a game variation â each sets a different number of enemy tanks to destroy â then press F12 (RESET) to begin. Pause at any time with Alt+P. Toggle colour mode with F2.
Tips
- Keep moving â a stationary tank is an easy target.
- In fog, enemies can close to firing range before they appear on screen; shoot at anything that moves.
- When your radar is damaged, track enemy positions by sound rather than the display.
