Game description:

Robot Poncots – Moon Version is a Japan-exclusive Game Boy Color role-playing game developed by Hudson Soft in collaboration with Red Company and released on December 24, 1999. It is the third and final entry in the original Robopon trilogy, arriving a year after the Sun and Star Versions and folding in extra creatures and events that had briefly been exclusive to the limited Comic BomBom Special Version. Players take on the role of Cody, who inherits his grandfather’s Robopon Dispatching Company and sets out across Porombo Island to collect, train, and battle robotic creatures called Robopon on the way to challenging the elite “Legend 7” trainers.

How to Play

Battles are turn-based: your Robopon fight using equipped software programs, and matching pairs of software can be “mixed” together into stronger combination attacks, such as fusing Fire and Thunder software into Zapp!!. Moon Version is the only cartridge in the series where all 168 Robopon can be collected in a single game, and it starts you off with an unusually strong partner, Otoshigo of the Boot tribe, already fitted with end-game-level parts and software. The cartridge also supports GB Kiss, an infrared feature that lets it “talk” to household remote controls to raise a Robopon’s stats or unlock bonus items.

Tips

Lean on your starting Otoshigo early: its late-game parts and software make the opening battles far easier than in a fresh save of Sun or Star. Keep a spread of elemental software on hand and experiment with mixing pairs together, since several of the strongest attacks in the game only exist as fusions and are never sold outright.
