RoboCop on the NES is a 1989 side-scrolling action game by Data East, directly adapting the hit sci-fi film. Players take control of the newly constructed cyborg officer, Alex Murphy, as he patrols the gritty streets of Old Detroit. Armed with the iconic Auto-9 pistol, you must blast through street thugs, navigate OCP facilities, and face off against formidable bosses like the ED-209 to bring down Clarence Boddicker.
How to Play
Your objective is to survive each level’s gauntlet of enemies, rescue hostages, and defeat the boss at the end of the stage. Use the D-pad (mapped to arrow keys) to move, duck, and aim your weapon upwards or diagonally. Press A (X or Z) to jump and B (Z or X) to fire your weapon or punch enemies in close quarters. Press Start (Enter) to pause the game.
Tips
- Conserve special ammo: Your standard Auto-9 pistol has infinite ammunition, but heavier weapons like the machine gun and Cobra Assault Cannon have limited uses. Save them for tough boss encounters.
- Automatic blocking: When an enemy attempts to punch you, standing still without attacking will cause RoboCop to automatically raise his arm and block the strike, taking no damage.
- Punch for close combat: If enemies get too close, pressing B will perform a punch instead of firing. This is especially useful for quickly dispatching aggressive attack dogs without wasting time aiming.
