RoboCop is Ocean Software’s classic 1988 action-shooter for the NES, bringing the gritty atmosphere of the hit sci-fi film to home consoles. Playing as Detroit’s cyborg law enforcement officer, you punch and shoot your way through the city streets to take down crime boss Clarence Boddicker. The game blends deliberate platforming with heavy, arcade-style combat, perfectly capturing the weighty, tank-like movement of the film’s iconic protagonist.
How to play
Your objective is to reach the end of each stage while managing your health and energy reserves, dealing with thugs, attack dogs, and eventually ED-209. You move and aim with the D-pad (mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys), while Z fires your current weapon and X makes you jump. Press Enter to start the game and pause. You will mostly rely on your fists up close, but you can draw your Auto-9 pistol when you find enough ammunition for ranged combat.
Tips
- Conserve your resources: Your energy meter constantly depletes over time. Pick up baby food jars to restore health and batteries to replenish energy.
- Block incoming fire: You can use your punches not just to attack enemies, but to deflect incoming bullets if you time your strikes correctly.
- Mind the stairs: Movement on stairs is slow and leaves you vulnerable. Try to clear out enemies on the next floor before committing to the climb.
