RoadBlasters is a vehicular combat racing game originally developed by Atari Games in 1987 and ported to the NES in 1990 by Beam Software. Set on futuristic, post-apocalyptic highways, you drive an armed sports car and must complete 50 rally courses. The challenge isn’t just surviving enemy attacks, but managing a constantly depleting fuel supply by reaching checkpoints and collecting fuel globes before your tank runs dry.
How to Play
The objective is to complete each rally by reaching the finish line before running out of fuel. Destroy enemies or collect globes to keep your fuel topped up.
- Arrow Keys (D-pad): Steer left/right, accelerate (Up), and brake (Down).
- Z or X (A/B Button): Fire your primary machine gun.
- Enter (Start): Pause the game.
When you catch a special weapon from the supply plane, it fires automatically alongside your main gun until its limited ammunition runs out.
Tips
- Prioritize fuel: Destroying certain enemy cars and motorcycles will cause them to drop green or red fuel globes. Snag these at all costs to extend your run.
- Watch for the supply plane: The plane will occasionally drop powerful temporary weapons like the UZ Cannon or Cruise Missile. Catching these power-ups is essential for surviving the later, more heavily defended rallies.
- Mind your speed in turns: Taking sharp corners at maximum speed can cause you to skid or crash into roadside hazards. Tap the brake slightly to maintain control on difficult turns.
