Game description:

Ring King is a classic top-down boxing game released for the NES in 1987. Published by Data East and known as Family Boxing in Japan, it stands out with its unique perspective and arcade-style action, letting players punch, weave, and unleash devastating special moves to climb the ranks and become champion.

How to Play

The objective is to defeat a series of tough opponents by knocking them out or winning by decision. On the NES, use the D-pad to move your boxer around the ring and dodge incoming attacks. Press A to throw a right punch and B for a left punch. Pressing Start pauses the game. In the browser, the D-pad is mapped to the arrow keys, with X and Z for punching, and Enter for Start.

Tips

  • Watch your stamina: Throwing too many punches tires you out, making your attacks weaker and slower. Step back to recover stamina when needed.
  • Use special attacks: When your power meter is full, wait for the right moment to unleash a powerful smash or a devastating uppercut that can quickly knock down your opponent.
  • Master dodging: Moving diagonally or weaving is essential for avoiding opponent combos before countering with a quick hook.
