Game description:

Originally a hit in the arcades, Rampart was brought to the NES in 1992, offering a unique hybrid of fast-paced puzzle mechanics and artillery strategy. You are tasked with fortifying a medieval castle against incoming naval fleets, alternating between frantically rebuilding your walls with puzzle blocks and firing cannons to sink enemy ships before the timer runs out.

How to Play

Each round consists of three phases: building, defending, and attacking. During the build phase, you must place differently shaped wall pieces to completely enclose your castle territory. If your walls are breached and you cannot seal them before time expires, you lose. For the NES browser emulator, use the Arrow Keys (D-pad) to aim and move pieces, Z / X (A / B buttons) to rotate blocks or fire cannons, and Enter to start.

Tips

  • Always prioritize enclosing at least one castle core; an incomplete wall means instant defeat, no matter how many cannons you have.
  • Capture additional castles by extending your walls around them, giving you more cannons to fire during the battle phase.
  • Place wall pieces as tightly as possible to avoid leaving single-square gaps, which are difficult to fill quickly when under fire.
