Game description:

Quake 64 brings id Software’s legendary first-person shooter to the Nintendo 64, adapting the brutal, gothic-horror action of the PC classic for the console. Released in 1998, this version is celebrated for its distinct atmosphere, featuring exclusive colored lighting and an entirely new, haunting ambient soundtrack by Aubrey Hodges. It retains the fast-paced, corridor-shooting gameplay, iconic weapons, and complex level design that helped define the 3D shooter genre.

How to Play

As the Ranger, your goal is to blast your way through slipgates and survive hordes of monstrous enemies across multiple dimensions. On the Nintendo 64, movement is handled by the analog stick, while the C-buttons are used for aiming and strafing. You fire with the Z trigger and switch weapons using the A and B buttons. In the browser emulator, these are mapped to your keyboard. Keep moving to dodge projectiles and monitor your health, armor, and ammo closely.

Tips

  • Manage your arsenal: The Super Shotgun and Nailgun are highly effective for standard enemies, but save your explosive rockets and grenades for tougher foes like Shamblers.
  • Hunt for secrets: Look out for slightly discolored walls, misaligned textures, or out-of-reach ledges. Levels are packed with secret areas containing powerful items like Quad Damage.
  • Keep moving: Strafe-running and constantly dodging projectiles are essential to surviving the game’s more overwhelming enemy encounters.
