Game description:

Released in 1993 by Compile for the NES (Famicom), Puyo Puyo is the definitive competitive puzzle game that launched a massive franchise. This version features the excellent Aeon Genesis English translation patch, allowing you to fully enjoy the game’s story mode and charming character interactions. The core mechanics are simple but deeply strategic: pairs of colorful slimes called “puyos” fall from the top of the screen, and your job is to arrange them to outlast your opponent.

How to Play

The objective is to clear puyos by connecting four or more of the same color horizontally or vertically. Doing so sends “garbage” puyos over to your opponent’s board, and the game ends when one player’s board fills to the top. This browser-based emulator uses standard NES controls: use the Arrow Keys (D-pad) to move your puyos left, right, or down, Z and X (A/B) to rotate them, and Enter (Start) to pause or confirm selections.

Tips

  • Focus on Chains: Clearing a single group of four sends very little garbage. The key to winning is arranging your board so that clearing one group causes the falling puyos above to form another group of four, creating a cascading chain reaction.
  • Keep the Center Clear: Your game ends immediately if the spawn point in the top-middle column gets blocked. Build your stacks along the sides first to leave yourself room to maneuver.
