Plok! is a challenging and highly colorful side-scrolling platformer released for the SNES in 1993, developed by Software Creations. You play as the eponymous hero whose beloved flag has been stolen by the Flea Queen. To get it back, Plok must journey across the vibrant islands of Polyesta, using his unique ability to detach and throw his own limbs at enemies.
The objective is to clear stages by navigating hazardous terrain and, in later levels, hunting down all the hidden fleas to unlock the exit. Plokโs primary attack involves throwing his arms and legs like boomerangs. If you throw all your limbs, Plok is reduced to a bouncing torso until they returnโleaving you defenseless but temporarily increasing your jump height.
Controls: Use the D-pad to move, Y to shoot your limbs, and B to jump. In your browser, these are mapped to the Arrow keys for movement, Z/X for the main action buttons, and Enter/Shift for Start and Select.
Tips
- Manage your limbs: Be careful not to throw all your limbs at once when dealing with fast enemies, as bouncing helplessly makes it easy to take damage.
- Use the presents: Keep an eye out for gift boxes scattered throughout levels. These contain temporary power-ups and costumesโlike a shotgun, flamethrower, or vehiclesโthat grant huge bursts of firepower.
- Use shells for secrets: You can pick up and throw shells at specific targets to uncover hidden warp zones, which can help you skip difficult sections or stock up on extra lives.
