Game description:

Pescatore is an unreleased 1991 puzzle game developed by Tierheit and intended for publishing by Sunsoft on the NES. Originally showcased at the 1991 Shoshinkai Show alongside titles like Gimmick! and Hebereke, it was ultimately cancelled before a commercial launch, surviving today only through a recovered prototype. The game plays as a quirky, Puyo Puyo-style falling-block puzzler where players must organize chains of googly-eyed sea creatures.

How to play

The objective is to clear your board by matching groups of identical sea creatures as they fall from the top of the screen. In the browser, use the arrow keys to move the falling pairs left or right, and the Z and X keys (mapping to the NES A and B buttons) to rotate them. Press Enter for Start. Chain reactions are key to sending nuisance blocks over to your opponent's side.

Tips

  • Set up combos early: Because the game relies slightly more on luck than other puzzle titles of the era, building large, interconnected clusters before clearing them is essential to surviving later rounds.
  • Watch the drop speed: As matches progress, the creatures fall considerably faster, so keep your stack as flat as possible to avoid being overwhelmed by a sudden bad drop.
