Game description:

Parodius for the NES is a wacky, side-scrolling shoot ’em up developed by Konami and released in Europe in 1992. Designed as a direct parody of their own Gradius series, the game replaces serious sci-fi settings with bizarre enemies, colourful stages, and a lighthearted tone. You can pilot the classic Vic Viper, or choose from goofy alternatives like the octopus Takosuke, the penguin Pentarou, or TwinBee, each featuring their own unique weapon loadouts.

How to Play

Your objective is to survive the side-scrolling stages, defeat quirky bosses, and rack up a high score. Defeated enemies leave behind capsules that advance your power-up meter at the bottom of the screen, allowing you to choose upgrades like speed boosts, missiles, or lasers.

  • Movement: Arrow keys (D-pad)
  • Shoot: Z key (B button)
  • Activate Power-up: X key (A button)
  • Start: Enter
  • Select: Shift

Tips

Keep an eye out for colored bells (borrowed from the TwinBee series) that appear when you shoot certain enemies or clouds; juggling them with your shots changes their color, granting special temporary abilities like a megaphone attack or temporary invincibility. Also, if you use the Vic Viper, its traditional Option formations are highly effective for covering more screen space.
