Paratrooper is an arcade action shooter released for DOS in 1982 by Orion Software. In this fixed-screen classic, you take command of a lone anti-aircraft gun at the bottom of the screen, defending your position against an endless wave of enemy helicopters and the paratroopers they deploy.
How to play
The objective is to shoot down helicopters, jets, and paratroopers to score points while protecting your turret. If four paratroopers manage to land safely on either side of your gun, they will form a human pyramid, climb up, and destroy your base. Jets will also fly overhead to drop bombs directly onto your position.
Use the Left and Right arrow keys to aim your turret, and press the Spacebar or Up arrow to fire. The game relies on standard keyboard inputs and can be played entirely in your browser.
Tips
- Target the parachutes: You do not need to hit a falling paratrooper directly. Shooting their parachute will cause them to plummet to the ground, which is often an easier target.
- Prioritize the soldiers: A paratrooper descending toward the ground is a much larger threat than the helicopter that dropped them. Deal with deployed soldiers before focusing on the aircraft above.
- Listen for jets: Jets fly much faster than helicopters and drop bombs that can instantly end the game. Keep an ear out for their distinct sound so you can quickly intercept their bombs.
