Palamedes is a puzzle game released for the NES in 1990 where players match dice to clear lines before they reach the bottom of the screen. Instead of the typical falling blocks of the era, the playfield descends with rows of six-sided dice showing various face values.
How to Play
You control a character at the bottom of the screen holding a single die. The objective is to change the value of your held die to match the dice advancing from above, then throw it upward to clear them from the board. As you clear dice, you build combinations like three-of-a-kind or straight sequences, which allow you to perform powerful attacks to remove multiple rows at once.
Controls: Use the Left and Right arrow keys to move. Press Z to throw your die, and press X to change the number on the die you are holding. Press the Down arrow key when you have a winning combination to activate a row-clearing attack. Press Enter to Start.
Tips
Pay close attention to the combinations you are building at the bottom of the screen. Trying to complete sequences (1 to 6) or matching identical numbers will give you the most powerful row-clearing attacks, which are crucial for surviving at higher speeds.
