Out Run 3-D is a 1989 arcade-style racing game developed by Sega for the Master System. Built specifically to showcase the SegaScope 3-D Glasses, it takes the high-speed, checkpoint-based driving of the original arcade classic and presents it with stereoscopic depth. You once again take the wheel of a Ferrari Testarossa, weaving through traffic across a series of branching, scenic routes before the timer expires.
How to Play
Your goal is to reach the next checkpoint before the time limit runs out. The track branches at the end of each stage, allowing you to choose your own route to one of several different endings. Steer your car using the D-pad (mapped to the arrow keys). Press Button 2 (X) to accelerate and Button 1 (Z) to brake. Pressing Up or Down shifts between low and high gears.
Tips
- Shift into low gear immediately if you crash or go off-road to regain speed quickly, then switch back to high gear once you are moving.
- Learn the branching paths; some routes have significantly heavier traffic or tighter corners than others.
- Stay close to the inside of corners when possible to maintain speed, but watch out for roadside obstacles.
