Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee is a pioneering cinematic platformer released in 1997 for the PlayStation by Oddworld Inhabitants. In a bleak, industrialized world, you play as Abe, a captive Mudokon floor-waxer at RuptureFarms who discovers his species is next on the menu. Escaping the meat-packing plant requires a mix of cautious stealth, puzzle-solving, and utilizing Abe’s unique abilities to outwit the heavily armed guards.
How to Play
Your objective is to guide Abe out of RuptureFarms and rescue fellow Mudokons by communicating with them using GameSpeak. Avoid hazards and armed Sligs by sneaking or running.
- Move / Aim: Arrow keys (D-pad)
- Jump / Action: X key (Cross)
- Sneak: Z key (Circle)
- Run: S key (Square)
- GameSpeak: Q, W, E, R keys (L1, R1, L2, R2)
- Chant (Possess Enemies): Hold all four shoulder buttons simultaneously
Tips
- Master GameSpeak: Rescuing Mudokons requires greeting them (“Hello”) and telling them what to do (“Follow me” or “Wait”). Learn the button combinations for these phrases.
- Possess to Progress: If you are blocked by heavily armed Sligs, look for a safe spot to chant. Possessing a Slig allows you to use their weapon to clear the path, then safely dispose of them.
- Walk, Don’t Run: RuptureFarms is filled with sleeping enemies and motion detectors. Sneaking is usually safer than running, as footsteps will wake up guards.
