Ninja Ryukenden III – Yomi no Hakobune (Japan) is the 1991 Japanese release of the classic action-platformer developed by Tecmo for the NES. Known in the West as Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom, this challenging installment continues the adventures of Ryu Hayabusa as he fights through difficult levels with his Dragon Sword and new power-ups, offering some of the tightest platforming on the console.
How to Play
Take control of Ryu to leap across deadly gaps, defeat enemies, and confront the forces of evil. As a classic NES title, the controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the arrow keys to move, Z to jump, and X to attack with your sword. Press Enter for Start and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Extended reach: Your sword has a longer reach in this third installment, so use it to strike enemies from slightly further away than before.
- Enhanced mobility: Master the wall-jump mechanics; unlike earlier games, Ryu can now seamlessly grab and climb walls or hang from overhead pipes to traverse dangerous hazards.
- Windmill Shuriken: Always keep an eye out for the Windmill Shuriken sub-weapon, which acts like a boomerang and is highly effective for clearing multiple enemies.
