Game description:

Nightmare in the Dark is a 2000 single-screen platformer for the Neo Geo MVS arcade system, developed by AM Factory with assistance from Paon DP and published by Eleven/Gavaking (this build is a bootleg reproduction of that release). Alone or with a second player, you take control of a lantern-carrying grave keeper who has to clear a haunted cemetery of ghosts, zombies, mummies and other monsters, one screen at a time.

How to Play

The objective is simple: wipe out every monster on the current screen before moving to the next. Arcade controls in the browser map the joystick to the arrow keys, with the lantern’s fire embers on Z and jump on X. Insert virtual coins with Shift and press Enter to start.

  • Keep pelting an enemy with embers and it will ignite into a carryable fireball — pick it up and hurl it into another monster for a much faster kill than embering each one down individually.
  • Defeated enemies drop jewels and potions that boost your firepower, speed, or throwing range. The grave keeper moves slowly on his own, so grabbing a speed potion early makes the rest of the screen far safer.
  • Clearing an entire screen using only a single fireball throw triggers a bonus giant jewel drop, so it pays to save your fireball for a crowded room instead of using it on the first monster you see.
