NFL Blitz brings Midway’s amplified, exaggerated take on American football to the Game Boy Color. Released in 1998, this 8-bit portable version strips away penalties, referees, and the rulebook in favor of fast-paced, 7-on-7 arcade sports action. While graphically scaled down from its arcade counterpart, it retains the core over-the-top tackles and high-scoring gameplay.
How to Play
The objective is to outscore your opponent by chaining together massive plays and aggressive tackles. Play calls are simplified, and the clock moves quickly. The default Game Boy Color controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the Arrow keys to steer your players, press Z to pass or tackle, and X to hurdle, spin, or switch players on defense. Press Enter to pause or select plays.
Tips
- Embrace the chaos: There are no penalties, so don’t hesitate to use late hits after a play is blown dead.
- Quick passes: On offense, get the ball out quickly. Defenders can close the gap much faster than in standard simulation football games.
