NBA Live ’97 is the final installment of EA Sports’ acclaimed basketball series released for the Super Nintendo. It features complete rosters from the 1996-97 NBA season across 29 teams, offering exhibition, full season, and playoff modes, as well as a custom tournament feature and half-court practice. Unlike the 3D editions on newer consoles at the time, the SNES version retains the series’ classic, fast-paced 2D sprite engine and signature isometric court perspective.
How to Play
Default SNES controls use the D-pad to move your player, B to pass, Y to shoot or block, A for a speed burst or steal, and X for a crossover dribble or spin move. In the browser emulator, these typically map to your keyboard’s arrow keys and the Z, X, A, and S keys.
Tips
- Watch your active player’s control indicatorโif it starts pulsing, that player is on a “hot streak” with temporarily boosted attributes. Give them the ball.
- For an easier or more arcade-style game, go to the Rules menu and turn off defensive fouls. This lets you aggressively bump opponents and steal the ball without being penalized.
- Press L and B together on the team select screen to have the computer pick a random matchup.
