Game description:

Released in 1996 by Midway, NBA Hang Time for the SNES continues the exaggerated, fast-paced 2-on-2 basketball action that made the genre famous. Rather than realistic simulation, the game focuses on gravity-defying dunks, shoving opponents, and sinking consecutive shots to become “on fire”. It also introduces the ability to create your own custom player, complete with bizarre heads and upgradeable stats.

How to play

The objective is to outscore the opposing team before the clock runs out. On the SNES, use the D-pad (mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys) to move your player. Press B (Z key) to pass or steal, Y (A key) to shoot or block, and A (X key) or X (S key) for turbo. Holding turbo while shooting or passing unlocks spectacular special moves and vicious defensive shoves.

Tips

  • Save your turbo: Your turbo meter drains quickly, so avoid holding it constantly. Save it for securing breakaways or performing high-percentage monster dunks.
  • Master the alley-oop: If your teammate is near the basket, pass the ball to them while they flash to execute a quick and unblockable alley-oop.
  • Go for the steal: Shoving opponents is effective but can leave you out of position. Time your steals right as the opposing player receives a pass or tries to cross over.
