Game description:

Mystery of the Capsmith Demo is an acclaimed Nintendo 64 homebrew project and ROM hack of Super Mario 64 developed by Dorrieal. Originally created as an entry for a hacking competition, this demo overhauls the original game’s mechanics by introducing three unique power-upsโ€”the Light Cap, Water Cap, and Wind Capโ€”across three custom-designed levels with a highly stylized aesthetic.

How to Play

Your objective is to explore the custom levels and master the unique abilities of the new caps. Since this is a Nintendo 64 title, the standard controls apply: use the Analog stick for movement, A to jump, B to attack/interact, and the Z-trigger to crouch or ground-pound. In the browser emulator, these are typically mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys for movement, X for A, C for B, and Shift or Space for Z.

Tips

  • Experiment with the Light Cap to create mid-air platforms and perform wall-kicks to reach high areas.
  • Use the Wind Cap’s soaring ability to traverse large gaps across the clouds.
  • The Water Cap allows you to slide through the air and interact with the environment, such as growing giant flowers.
