Game description:

Mortal Kombat II for the SNES is the acclaimed 1994 home port of Midway’s brutally competitive arcade fighting game. Expanding massively on the original, it features a roster of 12 playable fighters, including series mainstays like Baraka, Kung Lao, and Kitana, alongside faster gameplay and expanded combo potential. The SNES version is particularly notable for retaining the arcade’s blood and fatalities right out of the box, offering one of the most authentic home experiences of the era.

How to Play

The objective is to defeat opponents in a best-of-three martial arts tournament, culminating in battles against Kintaro and the Outworld emperor, Shao Kahn. In the browser, the SNES controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the arrow keys to move and jump. The attack buttons are mapped to A for High Punch, Z for Low Punch, S for High Kick, and X for Low Kick. Blocking is handled by the shoulder buttons, mapped to Q and W. Press Enter to start. Mastering the block button is essential, as there is no hold-back-to-block mechanic.

Tips

  • Uppercuts (Down + High Punch) are excellent anti-air attacks and deal massive damage, making them crucial for punishing missed jump-ins.
  • Sweeps (Back + Low Kick) can trip up aggressive opponents and give you breathing room.
  • Every character has unique special moves and fatalities executed via specific directional inputs and button combinations; focus on mastering one character’s moveset first.
