Game description:

Mortal Kombat 4 brings Midway’s legendary fighting franchise into full 3D on the Nintendo 64. Released in 1998, this installment introduces side-stepping mechanics and an interactive weapon system, allowing fighters to draw swords, clubs, and other gear during combat. Returning classics like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Raiden clash against new combatants like Shinnok and Quan Chi in brutal martial arts tournaments.

How to Play

Select your fighter and battle through a ladder of opponents to reach the fallen Elder God, Shinnok. The N64 controls map to your keyboard: use the arrow keys to move and jump, Z and X for the A and B buttons, and A, S, D, W for the C-buttons. Press Enter for Start. Combat relies on stringing together combos, executing special moves, and drawing your character’s unique weapon when the time is right.

Tips

  • Use the Z-axis: In MK4, you can side-step attacks by double-tapping down or up. This is crucial for dodging projectiles and linear strikes.
  • Weapon combat: Every character can draw a weapon, but getting hit will cause you to drop it. You can pick up dropped weapons (even your opponent’s) or throw them for heavy damage.
  • Maximum damage: Combos that exceed a certain damage threshold will trigger a “Maximum Damage” breaker, automatically ending the combo to prevent infinite loops.
