Released by Midway Games in 1993, Mortal Kombat brings the groundbreaking arcade fighting game to DOS. You select from a roster of seven digitized martial artists to compete in a deadly tournament, defined by its brutal 1-on-1 combat and iconic finishing moves.
How to Play
Win a best-of-three match to advance up the tournament ladder toward the final boss, Shang Tsung. Movement is handled by the arrow keys, while your keyboard’s action keys control high and low punches, kicks, and blocking. Unlike many fighting games of the era, you must press a dedicated button to block incoming attacks rather than holding backward.
Tips
- Master the uppercut: Crouching and pressing high punch executes an uppercut, which is an extremely reliable anti-air move that deals massive damage.
- Sweep the leg: Crouching and pressing low kick performs a sweep, a great tool for knocking down an advancing opponent.
- Prepare to finish them: Each character has a unique Fatality sequence that can be entered when the announcer yells “Finish Him!” at the end of the final round.
