Released in 2001 for the Game Boy Color, Mobile Golf is a Japanese-exclusive sports title developed by Camelot Software Planning. Building heavily on the engine and mechanics of Mario Golf, it features a similar three-click swing system and RPG-lite progression. The game was originally notable for its use of the Mobile Adapter GB, which allowed players to connect via mobile phones to unlock characters like Mario and Yoshi, as well as compete in online tournaments.
How to Play
The objective is to clear each course in as few strokes as possible by factoring in wind, terrain, and club selection. In the browser, use the Arrow Keys to aim and navigate menus, Z (A button) to select clubs or confirm actions, and X (B button) to cancel. To swing, press Z once to start the power meter, again to set the shot strength, and a third time to determine accuracy. Press Enter for Start and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Account for the wind: Always observe the wind indicator on the screen; even a slight breeze will significantly alter your ball's trajectory, especially when using high-lofted clubs.
- Apply spin: Holding up or down on the directional pad (Arrow Keys) while setting your accuracy allows you to apply topspin for extra forward roll or backspin to stop the ball quickly upon landing on the green.
