Mighty Bomb Jack is an action-platformer released by Tecmo for the NES in 1986. Moving away from traditional linear side-scrolling, the game emphasizes extensive mid-air control as Jack jumps through multi-screen pyramid levels to collect bombs, avoid enemies, and rescue the royal family from the demon Belzebut.
How to play
Your objective in each room is to collect all the bombs to open the exit. Collecting bombs with lit fuses in sequence increases your score multiplier and spawns better items from chests.
- Arrow Keys: Move left or right.
- X (A button): Jump. Your jump height depends on how long you hold the key. Pressing Down mid-jump immediately stops your vertical momentum.
- Z (B button): Spend Mighty Coins to open chests or transform.
- Enter (Start): Pause the game.
Tips
- Prioritize collecting bombs whose fuses are currently lit. Catching them in sequence maximizes your score and unlocks hidden power-ups.
- Use the mid-air brake (pressing Down) to safely navigate around low ceilings and floating enemies.
- Save your Mighty Coins for difficult rooms. Triggering a transformation when you have plenty of coins grants temporary invincibility or turns dangerous enemies into harmless items.
