Game description:

Micro Machines is a classic top-down racing game developed by Codemasters and released for the Super Nintendo (SNES) in 1994. Based on the popular line of miniature toy vehicles, the game shrinks players down to race across oversized everyday environments like breakfast tables, billiard tables, and work desks. Instead of standard tracks, you navigate around hazards such as Cheerios, pencils, and playing cards, offering a distinct and chaotic spin on the racing genre.

How to Play

The objective is to outpace your opponents across the miniature tracks and avoid obstacles that will slow you down. The game uses an unconventional top-down camera that stays centered on the action, requiring quick reflexes as the track scrolls into view.

  • Arrow Keys: D-pad (Steer left and right relative to the vehicle’s facing direction)
  • Z / X / A / S: Face buttons (Accelerate and Brake)
  • Enter / Shift: Start / Select

Tips

  • Master Relative Steering: Your directional inputs are relative to the car’s orientation, not the screen. If your car is facing downwards, steering left will move the car to its left (the right side of your screen).
  • Memorize the Tracks: Because of the zoomed-in top-down perspective, you have very little time to react to upcoming turns and hazards. Learning the layout of the breakfast tables and workbenches is crucial for maintaining top speed.
  • Pounce on Mistakes: In multiplayer or against difficult AI, the camera follows the leader. If a trailing car falls too far behind and off the screen, the leader scores a point. Keep the pressure on!
