Game description:

Developed by Capcom in 1993, Mega Man X is a fast-paced DOS action platformer that redefines the classic run-and-gun formula with enhanced mobility and a darker tone. Playing as the advanced Maverick Hunter X, you are tasked with stopping a rogue robotic uprising. The game introduces mechanics that became staples of the series, such as wall-jumping, dashing, and discovering hidden armor capsules to permanently upgrade your health and abilities.

How to play

Your objective is to defeat eight Maverick bosses in any order, claiming their signature weapons to exploit the specific weaknesses of the others. Because DOS games lack a standard controller, keyboard layouts can vary. Typical movement uses the arrow keys, with separate keys mapped for jumping, shooting, and dashing, so it is worth testing your inputs as soon as the level begins.

Tips

  • Tackle Chill Penguin’s stage first. His level contains the leg upgrade capsule directly in your main path, granting you the essential dash ability for the rest of the game.
  • Combine dashing and jumping simultaneously to cover much greater horizontal distances and clear wide hazards.
  • Every boss has a specific weakness. For instance, Spark Mandrill is completely frozen and stunned by the Shotgun Ice weapon acquired from Chill Penguin.
