Mega Man Showdown I (Boss Mode) is a boss-rush ROM hack of Capcom’s original 1987 NES platformer Mega Man, created by Vagla of Dragon Eye Studios as the first entry in the “Showdown” hack series. Rather than working through the game’s six Robot Master stages, this v1.0 release drops you straight into back-to-back fights against all six bosses, with tougher, faster attacks and a cut-down health bar that turns every encounter into a genuine test of skill.

How to Play

Your goal is to defeat all six Robot Masters — Cut Man, Guts Man, Ice Man, Bomb Man, Fire Man, and Elec Man — using the Mega Buster and the special weapons you earn from each boss you beat. As in the original game, every Robot Master has a weakness among the other bosses’ weapons, so swap your loadout between fights to find the fastest kill. In the browser, move with the Arrow Keys, jump with Z, and fire with X. Press Shift to cycle your equipped weapon and Enter for Start.

Tips

• Play it safe at range: with your health bar cut down from the original game, poke bosses with the Mega Buster from a distance until you’ve learned their tougher, faster attack patterns.
• Weapon-swap on the fly: the special weapon you win from one boss is usually the fast way to drop the next, so don’t stay locked to the Mega Buster once you have options.
