Rockman Exile is a well-known ROM hack of the NES classic Mega Man 2, created by the developer Blast Hornet and released in 2003. Rather than a simple visual update, this hack completely revamps the original action platformer with new level layouts, altered enemy behaviors, and an increased difficulty level designed to challenge veteran players. The soundtrack has also been updated, featuring music sourced from various Game Boy Mega Man titles.

How to play

Your objective is to navigate through eight treacherous robot master stages, defeating each boss to absorb their unique weapons before taking on Dr. Wily’s fortress. As an NES title, the standard controls are the D-pad for movement, A and B for jumping and shooting, and Start and Select for pausing and menus. In the browser, these map to the arrow keys, Z/X, and Enter/Shift.

Tips

• Enemy placements in Rockman Exile are significantly more punishing than the base game; take your time scrolling the screen to avoid being overwhelmed by sudden spawns.
